Brigham Young - Brigham Young followers

By 1845, the Mormons around Nauvoo had grown in popularity to more than 11,000 followers.

In September of that same year, foes burned more than 200 Mormon homes and farm buildings in an attempt to force the Mormons to leave. There were growing rumors of U.S. Government intervention, and a fear that troops would march on the city. The church leaders had discussed a move to the far west as early as 1842.

The Rocky Mountains and the Great Basin became the prime settlement.

The departure from Nauvoo began in February 4, 1846 under the new leadership of Brigham Young.

A memory from one of the travelers recorded in a journal read:
"Brigham Young laid out the daily routine of each pioneer camp. At 5 o'clock in the morning the bugle sounded, time for prayers. Then the people would engage in cooking, eating, and finding the team. At seven o'clock the train was to move at the sound of the bugle. At half past eight each evening the bugles are sounded. Time for prayers and retire by 9 o'clock."
